Be sure to familiarize yourself with the book in reference to the sensors and computer before continuing. An understanding of this should help you make the proper adjustments to the sensors. See Book 2, Chapter 10. Or watch DVD 3 and 4. |
The first thing you must determine is if you actually have a MAP sensor, or a MAF sensor with a voltage output (most MAF's have a frequency output signal). Either way, you should check to make sure you are making the correct adjustments. If you need to consult with a mechanic, do so. |
If the MAP Sensor Enhancer is not working, then you have to determine is actually occurring. Generally (but not always, you have to check your own car), the MAP sensor and some MAF's have a voltage output which varies from 1 to 1.5 volts at idle to 4 to 5 volts at wide open throttle. Check with a volt meter to make sure you know what your MAP sensor is doing on its own, without being modified by the MAP Sensor Enhancer. |
Next, check the output of the MAP Sensor Enhancer for this range. As you turn the potentiometer one direction, you'll see the voltage output of the MAP Sensor Enhancer go down slightly for that particular MAP output voltage. This is what you want. And you don't want to be adjusting the voltage out of the range of acceptable values. |
NOTE: You should be using the ground wire from the MAP sensor as the ground for the MAP sensor enhancer. Do not use the chassis ground, as this is not always the same. |
If the MAP Sensor Enhancer does not behave this way, you'll need to check the wiring of the MAP Sensor Enhancer and connection to existing wiring. Please read Chapter 10 of Book 2 for more a more detailed description. |

Changing MAP Sensor Enhancer Behavior: |
- If adjusting the pot on the MAP Sensor Enhancer doesn't kill the engine through the full range of the dial, then DECREASE the size of the resistor in the MAP Sensor Enhancer. Alternately, you can increase the resistance of the pot. For instance, if you have a 50K pot and a 50K resistor, you can change to a 50K pot and 25K resistor. Or, you can change to a 100K pot and 50K resistor.
- If adjusting the pot on the MAP Sensor Enhancer kills the engine, and there's no fine control, then INCREASE the size of the resistor in the MAP Sensor Enhancer. Alternately, you can decrease the resistance of the pot. For instance, if you have a 50K pot and a 50K resistor, you can change to a 50K pot and 100K resistor. Or, you can change to a 25K pot and 50K resistor.

Sensor enhancers of newer kinds are coming up from time to time - check hydrowaterpower.com for new offers from brilliant inventors, who specialize in the computer problem and have created brilliant solutions for you. Some of these new devices are improved EFIE's, while other are totally new and revolutionary! This is not said to minimize the importance and brilliance of EFIE and MAP Sensor Enhancer, but to tell you that if those fail or are hard to control, it's not the end of the road. The vehicle's computer is not a God from Heaven - it's just another stupid machine, and can definitely be put under control. |
