The Water freezes in cold weather. |
Solution |
First of all, the glass jar will not break because the water has space to expand UPWARDS, with the air having 4 routes to escape (HHO outputs, safety check valve and bubbler valve) and to make more room for the expanding water. So just in case it does freeze, it will not break anything. |
|
The electrolyzer is capable of thawing itself in a few minutes. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. The electricity running through the spiraled electrodes acts like a heater and will melt the frozen water. This is safe to do because this heating process happens all the time anyway. |
|
The best substance to PREVENT freezing is using windshield washer fluid instead of water. It's mostly water and it cannot freeze. If you need to add some more fluid, you don't have to take the device apart. Just take off the bubbler cap, inject some fluid through the hole and put the cap back on. |
|
Optionally, use the "Charged Water System" which is a simple yet powerful system. In the charging process, charge a mixture of half WASHER FLUID and half tap water. In this case, the process will suffer somewhat in the winter, that is to say will not be as efficient as summer. Gasoline, diesel and veggie oil or bio fuel, none of those are as efficient in the winter. Yet I think it's better to do something than nothing. |

Practical ideas based on user feedbacks |
- In the Water4Gas Electrolyzer (Hydrogen generator) add 50% WASHER FLUID or 50% ALCOHOL to distilled water. Problem is, the alcohol will evaporate sooner or later, so you have to keep adding some more daily. Just remove the little black cap (bubbler cap) and squirt some washer fluid into the Electrolyzer. Idea: a small pump connected to the washer fluid reservoir can do this for you with a push of a button.
- One solution that you may like is to put quick-connect plugs on both the electrical connection and the hose connections. Before you leave the vehicle for any extended period of time (more than 30 minutes), take the device indoors. Since there are no dangerous acids inside the Electrolyzer, it's safe to put almost anywhere (keep it away from children).
- I personally think this one is the best solution: “BATTERY WARMERS” are being sold online for as little as $19.20. Battery Warmers from InfinitiPartsPeople.com or www.JCwhitney.com work on 110 volts, while Warming Pads from www.PadHeaters.com are good for 12 volts.
Both types of warmers take little energy (about 60 Watts) so you can keep it on all night. Wrap the battery warmer around any water-holding device in your system. You may also wrap the device WITH THE WARMER with Mylar® or aluminum foil to minimize heat loss. Disconnect the warmer before driving, because the Electrolyzer will keep itself warm when active.
Another option, costing as low as $0.99 on eBay, is to place a “Coffee Mug Warmer” under the Electrolyzer. Optionally wrap it with Mylar®, aluminum foil or some other type of insulating blanket. Search eBay for "coffee mug warmer", it will bring up many offers. Choose one, cut off the USB plug and connect it to a cigarette lighter plug (your best choice of connection so you don't have to open the hood in order to switch it on and off). I've found such a plug with an in-line fuse and a long cord for $1.29 on eBay, and you can also find the plug at your auto parts shop for about $2.
- Another low-cost trick is to take a hose of warm water (from the radiator) or a hose of warm air (from the driver's cabin air heating system) and coil that hose around the electrolyzer. Assisted by the current going through the cell, it will melt it faster than just electric current alone.
